Why Skipping the Next Oil Change Is a Really Bad Idea

When times are tough and money is tight it can be really tempting to skimp on some things that don’t seem as if they will make a significant difference to your life. As an auto owner, it can be very tempting to just skip that next oil change, and maybe the next oil change – maybe 3 or 4 just to save a bit of money. After all, what harm can it really do, right? Well actually the answer is – it can do a lot more damage than you think.
The inside of an automobile engine is constantly wearing, and fine metal filings end up in the oil where they can cause further wear if not periodically removed. Also, factors like time, high heat and moisture can cause engine oil to break down and form sludge within your car’s engine. Oil should usually be changed every 3000 to 5000 miles, depending on the automobile manufacturer’s recommendation and the conditions under which the vehicle is used. Even if a vehicle has relatively low mileage since the last oil change, the oil should still be changed every 6 months as it will break down due to age.
