Why a Regular Oil Change is Critical

Getting a regular oil change can be critical to the upkeep of your vehicle, especially if you drive an older model. Without regular oil changes, you run the risk of creating bigger problems down the road and maybe even causing your car to stop running for good. 1.  Engine lubrication – Motor oil contains lubricants that prevent your car’s piston and piston walls from rubbing together. Over time, the friction of the pistons wears down the oils lubricating system and it will not work as efficiently. Without a regular oil change, the piston rubbing the piston walls can eventually damage the engine all together.

2.  Sludge build-up – Motor oil gets contaminated over time from outside sources, like dust from the road, antifreeze, or shavings from the engine. These contaminants eventually clot together creating a sludge-like substance that can stick to motor parts and cause engine wear and tear.

3.  Ensure proper oil levels – It’s pretty easy to forget to check the oil gauge while you are driving, but proper oil levels are essential to the continued operation of your vehicle. Running out of oil can cause serious engine damage that may not be repairable, especially if you don’t have a dash board gauge.

In addition to these important reasons for changing your oil, regular oil changes prevent condensation build-up. An oil change is recommended every time you drive 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or every 12 months, whichever comes first.
