If you want to get the best prices from tire dealers, the first thing you should decide on is which brand you want. Tire dealers that carry specific brands can give you a better price on the brands they stock because they buy directly from the factory. If you want a brand that a dealer doesn’t stock, he buys it from a wholesaler and marks the price up in order to make the sale worth his while.

Here are some other factors to bear in mind:

• Be courteous: It’s a known fact that salespeople, and tire dealers are no different, often base discounts on customer attitude. Politeness can count for a lot when you’re after a good deal!
• Get quotes from other tire dealers before visiting a store: If you have decided on the brand and type of tire you want, obtaining quotes from multiple stores could help you find the best price. Make sure that you are getting a direct comparison. One store’s quote may include things like taxes and disposal fees when another store’s quote does not, but you will have to pay for those either way.
• Department stores: If you get a good price from a department store, don’t be scared to ask tire dealers if they can beat or match it. It’s much better in the long run to buy from a tire store than a department store because, if there’s a problem with the tires, tire dealers are much better at sorting issues out than department stores.
