Signs Your Vehicle Needs Wheel Alignment

It is easy to keep up with most vehicle maintenance issues because they can be scheduled based on miles driven or time. Unfortunately, the need for a wheel alignment doesn’t follow a schedule like that. You could go many months in between an alignment or end up needing one just days after you had it done. That is one reason why very few auto service centers provide a warranty on this service. There are too many things that can throw off your wheel alignment. So, how can you know if you should have it done again? Here are a few signs that you should make an appointment for wheel alignment:
- Tire Wear – This symptom takes time to show itself, but if you notice your tires are wearing unevenly, it is likely that your vehicle is out of alignment, which is putting pressure on your tires in an odd fashion. A wheel alignment is far less costly than new tires every few months, so don’t put it off.
- Vibration – The need for wheel alignment can create a vibration in the steering wheel. This isn’t always the case, but if you do notice vibration, it is likely time.
- Drifting – If you release the steering wheel and on a flat road the vehicle quickly drifts to one side or the other, this is a sign you need wheel alignment services. If the drifting is extreme, this can pose a risk. Better to have the alignment done than end up in an accident.
Needing wheel alignment is costly to ignore as it creates excess wear on your tires and could be reducing your car’s fuel mileage.
