There is something very empowering about working on your own vehicle. When you learn to make the minor repairs on your own, you can gain a great sense of confidence in your skills. While we here at Country Town Tire & Auto Service Center applaud learning new skills, there are a few things regarding auto repairs that we believe should not be attempted by your average do-it-yourself mechanic -- ever.
Here are some of them.
- Changing the Brakes. For many people, they might be wondering why we would put the brakes on a list of forbidden DIY auto repairs! After all, many people with a reasonable amount of skill change their own brakes during a weekend break. It is not because of the skill required that we caution people against changing their own brakes; it is because your brakes are crucial to your safety and should therefore be left to professionals.
- Transmission Work. Your transmission allows your car to change gears, and repairs and replacements of the components that make up your transmission are going to be expensive. However, they’re likely to be even more expensive if we have to repair what you tried to fix in addition to the original problem.
- Changes in the Electrical. Most newer cars (and many older ones) are similar to computers on wheels. There are so many electrical components in newer cars that it can look and feel like an electrical jungle! Messing around with electrical components can, at best, leave you with issues and, at worst, seriously injure you through some electrical shocks.
