American Women are Spending $300 Billion a Year on Auto Repair and Maintenance

Most women are living hectic lives these days, and many have full time jobs. In fact, the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations) says that 63% of women are working 40 or more hours a week. This usually entails using their cars – a lot.

Traditionally, car care was considered to be men’s work, but stats from the Car Care Council tell us that 60% of auto repair and maintenance customers in America are women, and they are spending some $300 billion dollars a year on it.

If you’re one of the many women on the go, you’re encouraged to visit your local auto repair shop to ensure that your car is up to date with its maintenance needs. It will last longer, run better, provide optimal safety and retain its value.

Also, now that summer’s here and the travel season is upon us, you may be going on a much needed vacation. If so, here are two very important safety tips that you may not know about:

Blowouts:If you’re driving and a tire blows out, do NOT slam on the brakes. If you do, your car will swerve badly in the direction of the blowout. Gently apply the brakes instead – you’ll be able to regain control and guide the car slowly to a safe area away from the road.

Air Pressure:Under-inflation is the leading cause of tire blowouts or failure. The RMA (Rubber Manufacturers Association) says it’s imperative to check air pressure before going on a long trip. Also, the tires must be COLD when the pressure is checked. “Cold” means that you have driven no more than one mile.
