What You Can Do to Avoid Costly Auto Repair

A major auto repair job can be very costly, and is often caused by the owner simply neglecting to maintain the vehicle properly. A well-maintained vehicle runs more efficiently and needs fewer repairs. If there’s a problem with your car and you have it attended to immediately, you can prevent further damage and expensive auto repairs.

Here’s how to keep tabs on your vehicle’s condition.

• When driving, be aware of any changes in handling or strange sounds. Have them checked out immediately to prevent bigger problems.

• Every day, check for leaks – a simple glance will do. If you see a leak, take the vehicle to an auto repair specialist and have it checked. Again, quick intervention is the key. Know the colors of the various fluids to help identify the leak:

• Engine oil is brown
• Transmission fluid is red and oily
• Coolant/antifreeze is orange or bright green, and watery
• Brake/clutch fluid is slightly brown or clear
• Windshield washer fluid is blue

Vehicles are complicated machines and lots of things can go wrong with them. It’s therefore essential to have auto repairs done by professional technicians, especially the following:

1. Brake work (no compromise whatsoever)
2. Oil change (sounds simple, but it involves more than simply changing the oil)
