4 Things to Know Before You Shop for Tires

As with shopping for most things, the more homework you do ahead of time when you are about to shop for tires for your vehicle, the more likely it is that you will be happy with your purchase. There are a few things you should know ahead of time that will make the process less stressful.

1. Know your vehicle – In order to find the recommended tire for your vehicle, you have to start by knowing the make, model and year of your vehicle. If you have the owner’s manual for your vehicle, you can find information there about what size of tire is recommended.
2. Know your future plans for the vehicle – Before you shop for tires, you should consider how long you anticipate keeping the vehicle. If you don’t plan to keep it for long, paying extra for premium tires rated for a high mileage life is just benefiting the person you sell it to. On the other hand, if you plan to keep it for a number of years, it makes no sense to shop for tires at a bargain price that will need to be replaced yet again while you own the vehicle.
3. Consider where you plan to be living – You should also think about the seasons where you live and where you might be planning to move to. This will determine whether you need to shop for an all-season tire.
4. Consider traits of current tires – Think about the tires you currently have and what you liked or disliked about them. If you thought they were great, then there is little reason to change to a different tire style or manufacturer.
