3 Signs You Forgot an Oil Change

You know that you need to have an oil change done on your vehicle regularly, but sometimes things get hectic and it can slip your mind. As the miles tick along, it becomes more and more critical that you take care of this vital task, but thankfully, there are a few signs that will serve to remind you, hopefully before it is too late.

1. Check Oil Indicator – Today’s vehicles are highly computerized, and while that can be annoying sometimes, it is a wonderful thing when it comes to sensors that tell you that something is amiss. The check oil indicator is pretty difficult to miss, much less ignore. It will annoy you every time you start up your vehicle until it is reset by the auto service center when the oil change has been accomplished.
2. Oil Looks Horrible – This one isn’t going to be as useful if you are not one to even check the oil on your vehicle often. However, if it is in the back of your mind that it has been a while since you did an oil change, but you’re not sure if it is time, pop that hood and take a look at the oil. First take out the dipstick and wipe it off, then insert back in and then pull back out. Wipe it with a white cloth or paper towel and observe the color. If the oil is really dark, you should take care of that oil change immediately.
3. Performance – A vehicle with dirty oil struggles, and the engine will begin to let you know in no uncertain terms that it is very unhappy with you. It will make all sorts of noises trying to tell you that it is in agony. It may click, rap, and/or knock. At this point, you are WAY beyond needing an oil change and could face engine failure quite soon if your next trip isn’t to the auto service center for an oil change.
